Nic Tasker gets a BBC6 Music label focus, on his London based imprint Whities...

Starting out as a subsidiary label to the fantastic Young Turks imprint, Whities now stands on it’s own two feet as a hugely successful independent in its own right.

The label itself has released music from a host of truly unique artists such as Lanark Artefax, Avalon Emerson, Minor ScienceGiant Swan and Cobey Sey amongst others. . .

The Whities imprint brings a refreshing approach to electronic underground music, being lesser about having a well defined sound/genre, specific to the label... moreover, priding itself on fostering the individualism and uniqueness of the artists it works with, through championing their ‘personalised musical expression’, which in tern forms the musical thread that weaves the label’s style together.

In the interview, label founder Nic Tasker (pictured above) talks to Gilles Peterson's BBC6 Music show of the importance the ethos the label is grounded in, where by. . .

"all the artists that we work with are very individual and all do something quite unique…. The most important thing for me is doing something which is easily identifiable as them..."

. . .This is unequivocally evident in the over-all ethos, label aesthetic (fantastic website design included) and of course, the label's high calibre roster and releases to date.

It is both admirable, and refreshing in today's saturated electronic music market to see labels like Whities strive to make a genuinely unique mark in the world and plump only for tastemaker quality over cookie cutter quantity…

The future looks bright!.. bravo Whities we salute you, keep up the sterling work!

Here are 3 mighty fine releases from Whities...
