// Big Fish Fridays - Life - Brighton //

big-fish-fridays-brighton-lifeLife begins at ...Well... "Life" kings road arches, Brighton - 11pm till 4am, well maybe not life but the weekend at least.Myself and Sound Canvas agent Jim" fill to the rim" Gordon hit the road to attend the much anticipated  "Big Fish Fridays" for the first in a regular weekly instalment of underground electro, break beat, dub and tech-house. life_brighton

Set to be dance music at its best, 'Life' will feature special guests accompanied resident DJ's alike. This week was none other than Sound Canvas favourite James Zabiela, though we will not be discussing his usual faultless exciting top class sets, but "Big Fish Fridays" and the venue  itself.

Eagerly anticipating the night ahead we entered the venue with nothing but a back catalogue of dangerous and life threatening dance moves, first class outfits, a new walk perfected that afternoon, a suitcase full of witty antidotes and BOOM! You have yourself two gentleman ready to rave the evening away.

The "Life" venue was previously a little indie club known as "The Ark', but is now a cheeky little haunt perfect for underground dance music. It has the presence of a place you could imagine discovering for yourself, like one of "One-Eyed Willy's" gold coins.

With a good atmosphere it felt intimate and it's tiny arched tunnels and small crevices offer plenty of places to lose your mind in some brain melting electro and techno.

The downstairs bar and lounge offers 'too cool for school' smokers a hangout area which is overlooked by the upstairs terrace. The upstairs terrace itself has another bar with more tunnels and passages to loose yourself in while the rave area surrounds  the DJ booth, so you can literally get up close and personal. Although do refrain from requesting  "Byron Stingily or Shapeshifters" it's not cricket in this kind of shindig.

The crowd were generally awesome on the night. A friendly and cool gathering of well accessorized men and women strutting there skinny jean's and moccasins all over the shop but not with out the occasional pair of Reebok Classics screeching around like a heavy footed middle aged man knocking his pipe out on a 1980's squash court.  Metro-sexual disco diva's will be happy to know that the mens toilets have adequate face reflection areas to fix your sweaty weaves too.

On the whole a good tear up in a nice underground venue. It's nice to be able reaffirm a different approach to the many commercial dance clubs in Brighton and is definitely a special night for those seeking more too fill their boots. The guys at "Life" get the thumbs up from Sound Canvas Jim 'n' Jode, we'll be keeping our peepers on future guests and recommend you do the same.
