Dan Price interview. . . One year on. . .
What with the next edition of His new event COS coming to Pacha London next weekend (15th October), a fistful of cutting edge releases, DJ appearances and a pending Australia tour, SCM favorite Dan Price just seems to have gone from strength to strength as the past 12 months have whizzed by!. . We thought it was high time we caught up with him for a cup of Earl Grey and a Garibaldi to make sense of it all. . . OK, so lets kick off with a tune, what’s your favorite track at the moment and why? Really feeling Belocca 'True' (Original Mix) at the moment. A real summer vibe with tough snare hits and awesome vocal usage. My kind of track! Djing and touring wise, What have you got going on for the remainder of 2011 and into 2012? My night, Coming On Strong, got off to a flying start back in June and is now a much talked about event on the London House scene. It's going from strength to strength with the next party at Pacha on 15.10.11 in cahoots with the mighty Phonetic Recordings. Big shout to Rob Roar for his continued support. I hear that Soundcanvas DJs will be there too? ; ) Apart from that, dates in Portugal, Ukraine, Scotland and India to be announced as well as an Australian tour, from October onwards, starting off with a guest mix on the excellent Kiss FM in Melbourne, not to mention my home town of London. Eyes peeled!
What productions have you got in the pipeline, what labels are they coming out on and are there any cheeky collabs? Can't say too much just yet about which labels they are but believe me when I say "they are big and they are smashing it, right now". Currently working on a couple of new ones and they are towards the finishing stages but keep a look out for the release dates on the aforementioned "big" labels. Exciting times! ; )
Where are you taking your inspiration from these days for your productions? I take a lot of inspiration from labels such as Great Stuff, Kling Klong, Intec and Drumcode and their artists. I feel that my stye, not only in the studio but also on the road, suits that vibe well.
Is there something you can tell SCM that no one else knows about you right now? I pulled my stage manager last weekend. Uh oh. No names, no names. ; )
Do you prefer to record on the road or in the studio? I've purposely put together a studio that is fully portable so either one suits me. I guess I prefer to actually be in the studio for concentration's sake but there's something pretty damn cool about making music at 30,000 feet.
Tell us more about the collab between COS and Phonetic/Point blank with regards to Pacha Oct 15th? Cool. Well, I've been a guest DJ for the We Are Phonetic parties for some time now and after seeing the amount of hard work I had put in to getting COS off the ground, Rob Roar suggested we do a joint venture. For those that don't already know, Phonetic is one of Ibiza and the World's favourite House music labels and became the first label in the World to deliver four consecutive Ibiza No.1 Records. It's a huge deal for myself and COS to be involved in such a big project and I'm over the moon about it! The 15th October 2011 sees the likes of Michael Gray (Full Intention), Scott Cuba (Coco Cuba), Rob Roar (Phonetic, Max Linen) and myself host 'We Are Phonetic - The Ibiza Reunion', with the underground sounds in the Global Room; COS & Point Blank FM. Some of my guests include Mark Ryan of Amazing Radio fame and Soundcanvas DJs. Hailed by various magazines as one of the most exciting parties to hit London in years. Tillate "Oh My God, Awesome, wicked music & quality people!" Tickets are now on sale via the Phonetic website. Going to be so HUGE! :D
