// Exclusive interview with TOY TIGERS - Moda Music //
'Cutting Edge', a term, dare we say a little over used here at Soundcanvas Towers, but where Moda and Toy Tigers are concerned, nothing could be more fitting. Just 21 and one of the original 4 members of the Moda Army, this bright eyed and bushy tailed Toy Tigers fella shows a lot more then just promise as he teases us with clips of the sounds he's been throwing down in the studio of late. Not only is his sound fresh cutting edge and clean, Toy Tigers also lays his own creamy vocal contribution over the top!
With all this musicality in mind, we caught up with Toy Tigers to address the importance of Darjeeling and Earl Grey in our lives and to find out what would really happen if Phillip Schofield and Andi Peters had a 'Dust up' out side the Bookies?
Tea, Coffee, Scone? Tea. Earl Grey or Darjeeling. Vampire Weekend got it right, English Breakfast IS like Darjeeling, but I find the latter lighter! Scones are pretty good though aren't they! Coffee is for Americans, Brits should drink tea. Controversial I know, but that's how I feel about that one!
So, Toy Tigers, need more info, spill the beans please. Dark Days and Golden, both previews on your soundcloud, please tell us there is more of this to come and when can we expect it? The preview of Dark Days is out there because Golden was getting some love and people wanted to hear something else. Golden will only be available in full when we start ramping up to the compilation.... I'm not sure about Dark Days, to be honest it isn't 100 % finished, but I didn't want to leave people hanging! It may well be the first proper single but if it isn't, I'll release it into the blog universe soon!
Tell us a little more about the compilation due out on moda this summer? We're really excited about this. Basically, its two CD's, the first a selection of stuff from the more Indie side of Moda's sound with plenty of exclusives, the second, a mix of loads of exclusive stuff put together by Jay and Andy. There is some incredible stuff on both, and I say that with sincerity. Some of the stuff is completely unheard of and mind blowingly good! One artist, Flights, is "I knew where I was when I first heard that record" material and it's his first release, ever!
'Seriously crisp production, sounds like they've got a proper nice set up, that's a nice warm synth sound right there' Mick's words only moments ago. . For the budding producers out there, any studio tips? I'll level with you... I have friends with very good ears and years of experience who have sprinkled some magic on Golden. Tom Staar being one of them. I'm not saying I don't know loosely what I'm doing though... Dark Days is all my own work, except the bass sound, courtesy of James Jacob aka Jakwob! What I'm doing is this - not being scared by the forums and people out there on the internet who can bore you to tears about compressors and reverbs! I play around and if it sounds nice or how I want it,I keep it! That'd be my tip. The technical side to production is important of course, but never let it get in the way of making music.
Throwing parties, releasing records, making beats and generally causing mischief. You guys seem to be all over everything. Along with a tour of your party on the horizon, what else can we expect from the Mighty Moda for the rest of the year? A lot! It's a " if I tell you, you will have to die" situation. But rest assured, it involves a lot more parties and a lot more music !
If you could choose a super power what would it be? This is the question everyone has thought about but I haven't until now.... I think, I'd like to be able to remember everything I ever learnt. I'd just read loads and make Stephen Fry look like a cave man. Is that a super power or not?!
Who would be a dream collaboration for Toy Tigers? Thom Yorke. That guy is next level. There is something just so amazing about the weight his vocal carries despite being relatively feeble. There are other artists I would love to work with like Bon Iver and Fionn Regan, but I'd have to whip out the acoustic guitar and it'd all get a bit far removed from the sound I've chosen for Toy Tigers!
Lovely vocals, seriously, really good stuff. . any live PA's on the cards and can we get an invite? Thanks! I appreciate that... There will be yes, and of course! Come and do a live review!
In a 'dust up' between Phillip Schofield and Andy Peters, who would win? I don't watch television but thanks to Google, I now have an informed opinion. Firstly, let me correct you. Andy was christened "Andi" on the 29th of July 1970. And if it's that guy.... He's chesty and would win. He makes me look like a de-frosting chicken and I'm a lot bigger than Schofield!
