// Phonica presents Wolf+Lamb and Soul Clap – In store + a chinwag with store chief Simon Rigg
Not content with DJ Mag naming them as the number one record shop in the world last week, Phonica Records, London are set to smash this coming weekend with 2 instore's and their Phonica v's Aus Records event @ Corsica Studios. Phonica are really making decisions easy for you this Saturday 9th April. Get your ass down to 51 Poland Street, Soho @ 6pm and not only will Phonica let you bring your own beverage's but you will be able listen to up-front house, disco, soul, techno before the sun goes down. Wolf & Lamb, Soul Clap & the Phonica Residents will be showcasing their musical talents in-store allowing you see them up close and personal and probably pick up a few of their vinyl's too. Then the Phonica bandwagon rolls down to underground venue Corsica Studios in SE17, where Aus Records will be tearing things up. Pepe Bradock, Levon Vincent, Will Saul & Dup-Step-py visionary Ramadanman/Pearson Sound will be taking care of business until 6am. Lovely! Phonica's Main man Simon Rigg kindly spared us a cheeky 10 minutes to give us a heads up... Simon congratulations on DJ Mag naming you 'Worlds Best'. Phonica is a shining example of moving with the times. We noticed Claude Von Stroke tweeting a few weeks ago he popped into Phonica and you guys sorted him right out. It must be a result when you get big players coming to you for their music. Well, a lot of the big players still buy vinyl and appreciate that loads of great records only come out on vinyl...so you're missing out on loads of good stuff if you just go to a website and download.....this is the stuff that sets you apart from everyone else!
How was Watergate in Berlin last month? Have you got any more European dates coming up? We haven't decided on any festivals yet, can we catch Phonica at any? Watergate was a lot of fun - Hector, Anthea & me played back to back for 9 hours - not bad going for a midweek night...seems the Berliners dont mind what day of the week it is! We will be playing at some festivals this summer such as Bestival, Sonar festival and representing with a stall at Field Day. We've also parties in Berlin & Barcelona planned.
We can vouch for Watergate and Berlin, about time we got back there! Moving onto this Weekend. Soul Clap and Wolf & Lamb, thats a great coop for your in-store. Who else have you got coming up? Well, it's gonna be a big one! A roadblock! Its always a lot of fun with those guys, they will definitely know how to turn an evening in the shop into a party! Coming up this Friday the 8th, we also have legendary disco producer John Morales. In the near future there's an album launch from balearic disco act Gato Fritto and an in-store from Tensnake!
Wow we can see Tensnake being a road block too! So, Corsica studios has become your second home of late, We still havn't got down there yet. Whats all the Fuss about? And can you tell us abit more about this Pepe Bradock Fella? Corsica is such a great venue - it has so many fans. Its just like a warehouse really, a bit rough n ready round the edges but no holds barred on the soundsystem - the Function 1 system is one of the best and loudest in London! The guys that run it are some of the nicest people you can meet too....and its always a good crowd, tucked away in Elephant & castle, you always get people determined to hear good music! Pepe Bradock has been around for a while but he's been responsible for some classic deep house records including his most revered "Deep Burnt" - theres always an air of mystery around him and he doesnt play very often, so come see him while you can!
Finally Simon, Could you give our SCM readers a heads up on couple of tracks that are doing it for you right now. The new SCB on Aus is excellent - both tracks show different sides to producer Scuba. I also like the Four Tet / Caribou double-header on Text - Four Tet is really on it at the moment with all his productions. Caribou also has this new edit 12 inch out too on vinyl only - Daphni edits on Resista - that show's another side to him as he beefs up an afro-pop record.
Thanks Simon. See you and the guys Saturday.
