Hello! how has 2010 been for you? Great thanks. Relatively calm compared to the last five years of my life. What has been your biggest achievement this year? I'm really proud of my AMP compilation selling so much and my AMP parties and events being attended by so many. How do you feel your radio show has gone this year? Which was your favourite show? I've really enjoyed it. I hope that everyone else has too! It kind of feels right that the music I've been supporting for the last few years has come into the mainstream at the same time as my show has been pushed to the 7pm slot. After a year, I feel like I belong there. I'm happy. What are the challenges in keeping the show fresh? Keeping the music fresh is most important. Playing stuff that I find genuinely exciting. Also trying not to sound like Groundhog Day every week whilst explaining the same features... Which artists are doing it for you at the moment? All sorts; everyone from Chilly Gonzales to Penguin Prison to Jamie Woon to Warpaint. I"m obsessed with The National also and the new Nicki Minaj LP. Three words to describe the 'Annie Mac' sound? Uplifting. Soulful. Happy. What are your three favourite records at the moment? I have three new favourite records every day. So today's three are as follows... Chilly Gonzales ‘Knight Moves’ Break And Die ‘Slow Down’ Sandra St Victor ‘FMAO’ (Seiji Garage Dub) What is your preferred beverage whilst performing? Champagne. Out of a plastic pint glass. What is your favourite pastime when not behind the ‘ones and twos? Reading. Watching films. Driving in my car with my friend and some very loud music. Shopping. Do you have any intentions of getting into production and remixing in the future? No. Although I do love playing musical instruments but that's something I'll do in my own time and company. Much better off that way believe me! Who would you most like to work with in 2011? I love working with Nick Grimshaw on Sunday nights on radio 1. As long as I can keep doing that in some capacity I'll be happy. Why choose London for your New Years Eve performance this year. London is home for me. It's close to my heart. How was it to play at Brixton Academy last NYE? It was great! I played early while everyone was still relatively well behaved. I'm really happy to be playing late this year. Do you have any particular memories from the night? I remember one of my friends having to pee on the side of the motorway because we didn't have time to stop between gigs. She disappeared into a bush for about five minutes. We thought she'd been abducted. How does Brixton Academy compare to other venues you’ve played at this year? I have seen everyone there from PJ Harvey to System Of A Down. I lived in Brixton for a few years too. I remember coming home on the last tube and trying to guess who played the Academy that night from the look of the fans coming down the escalators! It is a legendary London venue. It doesn't compare to any other! Can you name one tune you will definitely be playing on New Years Eve? I'll have to play a Katy B tune. Either ‘On A Mission’ or ‘Light's On’. It's been so great to see her grow in popularity so much this year. I love that she's a popstar now! What is your ultimate midnight tune? Probably Joubert Singers ‘Stand On The Word’ (Larry Levan remix). It's just pure joy, condensed into a five minute song. Or LCD Soundsystem ‘All My Friends’ to be experienced arm in arm with all my friends. I've actually played 'Love Is In The Air' as a midnight tune before, it's kind of perfect... What can we expect from Annie Mac in 2011? Radio. Always radio. And hopefully some very special AMP events. Maybe even one in Brixton Academy! And finally can you send out a message as to why people should be at Together at Brixton Academy on New Years Eve? The line up is fantastic. Regardless of anything else you are going to get a night of exciting and amazing music.
